The Blue Heron Foundation was established to give back to our communities that need it most through development programs and charitable giving. Just as the blue heron soars across the marshes and waterways of the Low Country, the Blue Heron Foundation lifts area disadvantaged children to new heights, providing them the support and opportunities they need to thrive.
This act of kindness allows us to feel connected to others, fostering a sense of belonging and empathy. By contributing time, resources, or skills, we can address societal issues and support those in need, creating a positive impact. Additionally, engaging in charitable activities can lead to personal growth, as individuals learn about different perspectives and develop new skills. Ultimately, giving back not only helps those in need but also enriches the lives of those who give, creating a ripple effect of compassion and goodwill within the communities.
Great Blue Heron
Drawing inspiration from his success with the Boys and Girls Club in metro Detroit, Peter Ludwig of Dataw Island, a community on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, recognized the need to replicate efforts in the Low Country. He gathered a core group of like-minded volunteers from Dataw Island, and together, they launched the first program, PickleMe Dataw, a pickleball and enrichment initiative sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of the Lowcountry.
